Proactive condition monitoring with a dedicated condition monitoring system ensures lead-time to maintenance and has measurable benefits for the operation and life cycle of wind turbines.
The monitoring requirements for a wind turbine are very special in relation to other machines and therefore require a dedicated monitoring system concept. One of the most important functions for a wind turbine monitoring system is dealing with the flood of warnings and alarms and filtering out the irrelevant alarms. A centralized Condition Surveillance Centre is the most effective solution here, especially for geographically dispersed wind parks.
Not only have we as Brüel & Kjær Vibro worked closely with large wind turbine manufacturers to develop a dedicated monitoring system, we have also adopted a unique service program, where all monitoring, diagnoses, and reporting is done by a team of ISO 18436-2 cat. II and III approved analysts. There are clear procedures for integrating the information and work flow between the Surveillance Centre and the operator service departments.
The effective alarm management system employs a severity assessment concept for more accurately planning service. A number of severity classes have been defined, each related to an estimated lead-time. This information is passed on to the customer together with a detailed alarm report. Actionable information ensures lead-time to the maintenance of the wind turbines and optimizes uptime. Moreover, the customer can see and analyse the data in a secure website through a browser.
Brüel & Kjær Vibro has over 50 years of experience in machine condition monitoring and a global sales and support network. We count well-known wind farm operators and wind turbine manufacturers among our customers.
