Repairing, sealing, coating and strengthening wind turbine foundations 

Since 2005, KTW Umweltschutztechnik GmbH has fitted life-tested, highly elastic joint seals between embed rings and foundations and applied coatings to cover cracks in concrete surfaces on the more than 1000 wind turbine foundations it has worked on. The highly elastic coatings have been successfully certified for 180 million load cycles (= approx. 20 years of operating life) from -0.2 mm to +0.7 mm.

High-pressure injection procedures are used to reinforce and improve the mounting of embed rings, the results of which are also durable for around 190 million load cycles.

If the foundations exhibit cracks, chips or leaks in the joint seals, movement measurements are recommended according to the level of damage so that the refurbishment concept can be optimised before repair work takes place. Concrete repair takes place with the decoupling of the embed ring. Any required underground preparatory treatments, such as sandblasting, are handled in a one-stop on-site service with our own equipment and SCC-certified personnel. On-site staff and service engineers are also certified in the "Protection, Repair, Bonding and Strengthening" (SIVV) of concrete.

If the towers have been partially damaged by corrosion, we also offer expert repair and sealing work on butt joints of tower parts – even at great heights. Here we use approved clamps and work platform systems.

KTW Umweltschutztechnik GmbH, a TÜV approved company under the Water Management Act (WHG), also offers seals and coatings for the inside of the tower to prevent leakage into the soil, and highly elastic seals for electrical substations and their cable inlets.
