  • Description

Meteomedia Energy. Weather forecasts for the entire energy value chain.

Local forecasts need local measurements. This applies to the energy sector as much as the weather. It is why Meteomedia operates its own network of weather stations, which it complements by drawing on measurement data from numerous national weather services. In Germany Meteomedia has access to data from 1,200 weather stations; globally this extends to around 12,000.

Meteomedia‘s research and development team brings together meteorologists, mathematicians, computer scientists and physicists to continuously optimize forecasts, enhancing the predictability of the weather and thereby minimizing economic risk.

Meteomedia therefore offers a clear competitive advantage in a liberalized energy market. Precise and reliable forecasts of local weather developments support you in analyzing your potential for optimization along the entire energy value chain. Around 400 energy suppliers already make use of this advantage.

You too could benefit from Meteomedia products for the energy sector:

Knowing where the wind’s blowing.
Meteomedia’s wind power prediction meets the highest quality requirements. Our predictions are based on an ideal combination of high-resolution short-term forecast models featuring a spatial resolution of up to 4 km x 4 km as well as the world’s best medium-term forecast models (UKMO, ECMWF and GFS). Our proprietary and reliable Model Output Statistics (MOS), in use successfully for years, ensure further forecast enhancement.

In addition to the weather data, wind power prediction incorporates the entire location database of all wind turbines. This means that start-up and shut-down speeds are automatically considered. Wind power is thus predicted for up to four days in advance for any wind parks and regions or for all of Germany.

Particularly in exposed locations, in the German areas of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea for example, weather events are often more extreme than on land. This is why Meteomedia has set up a weather station measurement network of unique density in coastal regions. The combination of our proprietary statistical forecast model (MOS) and the world’s best weather models allow us to make high-quality forecasts with razor-sharp precision.
